Partnership Mission with Upper Cumberland Association of Baptists

For Christmas 2014 the associational churches were challenged to put together 500 backpacks for the Backpacks for Appalachia ministry. Glory to God, our churches came through in a big way and put together over 900 backpacks.

As an association we committed to deliver and distribute these backpacks in the Harlan County, KY area. Over 60 individuals from our churches went on the mission trip in December to hand out 500 backpacks and share about Jesus. Needless to say, we had to scramble to find an additional location to take the other backpacks to.

What was born of this experience was a desire to do more in this impoverished area of Kentucky. On February 1, 2015, a formal partnership was formed between Friendship Baptist Association and Upper Cumberland Association of Baptists. Through December 2017 we have committed to stay in communication and pray for this association, her churches, and the people. We are also committed to take at least one Association sponsored mission trip each year to meet as many needs as possible. Additionally, we encourage our churches to meet some of the priority needs of this area by planning and taking their own church sponsored mission trip.

Update: At the Annaul Meeting in 2017, we extended our partnership for an additional 2 years.

Update: At the Annual Meeting in 2019, we formally signed an additional covenant with Upper Cumberland Baptists to continue our partnership for another 5 years.
